Paradigms

Hey promised I would Blog about the 7 habits so here is the first section. It hasn't started about the habits yet but its laying the groundwork. Its about Paradigms.

Paradigms represent the way you view the world. One thing you must realise is that you do not see the world as it is, but as you are. An analogy is that although a photograph contains images of the scenery, the lens used to capture it also gives much of the definition. So you must never assume what you see is the objective truth.

A paradigm shift is where we change the way we view the world. It is different from a personality shift. A personality shift changes the way we act or react. But if we view the world in a certain way, then the effects of the way we act or react is merely secondary; it does not change who we are fundamentally.

Therefore. the way we see the problem is the problem. For example, in a conflict, it is always easy to say he is the problem, always getting on my nerves, always doing things to irritate me. Externalising the problem generally isn't the issue. If we realise that the problem is fundamentally rooted in the mental picture we associate with the person and change it, then we are solving the problem at the root.
