Habit 2: Begin with an end in mind

The second habit is closely liinked to the guidance system we use to determine our everyday actions. It simply means having a clear idea of your destination, so you know where it is you want to be and therefore how you should go about getting there. The importance realising this second habit is so that you do not spend precious time climbing a ladder that lead to the wrong tree house. It is the difference between efficiency and effectiveness.

All things are created twice
Everytime we embark on an enterprise, the product is created twice. For example, we need a new routine up. Before the mats are laid and the training starts, the routine has to be planned from top to bottom. It is created in the mind, with the stunts and timing put in place. Thereafter, the steps to realisation are taken one at a time.
Keeping the end product in mind is imperative to being a leader. A leader keeps the team focused and marching in the right direction towards a goal, therefore ensuring effectiveness. On the other hand, a manager ensures the steps taken are efficient.

A personal mission statement
A personal mission statement is useful in defining what it is you want to achieve at the end of the day. It can exist in many levels and in many roles. By levels I mean from the personal level to the organisational level, and different roles would mean at work, family, or team. It does not pertain to the task at hand; rather it encompasses values that are universal and will guide your actions no matter what life throws at you.

A center
This alludes back to the circle of influence. At the centre of it lies the object of our true desire, which can take on many form. We may be work centered, family centered, religion centered etc etc. From this centre we draw four important aspects of our lives: Security, Guidance, Wisdom and power. These 4 factors are interdependent and are central to our character. An imbalance in one can lead to a diruption in our character. Therefore, our centre (ultimate goal) dictates our character(security, guidance, wisdom and power) that eventually lead to the day to day decisions we make, and how happy we innately are.

Visualisation and affirmation
This is a technique to greatly focus on our objectives. It involves us sitting down in a quiet, isolated space, and visualising what we want to achieve in as rich detail as possible. By that end we can see the steps we had taken to get there, the mindsets that were practiced, and the satisfaction in the results. This can be practiced in a variety of objectives, from short term goals like hitting that backtuck, to long term ones such as top 3.
