as usual I'll be blogging mostly about single stunts and the tips I've found during the recent trainings.
Single Liberty
- Start switching grip with when your hands have passed over your head.
- Dip low and push up strongly
- Don't rush the stunt
Cupie
- The dip here is very important. The weightlessness must be pure, as the base needs to switch grip and footing.
- The base must maintain his position under the stunt, and as usual all he should be able to see are the flyers feet
Toss to extension
- I think I'm getting too excited about this one, and am controlling the flyer too much. Doing this is cutting my strength and I'm losing the burst. I should relax the whole time until the flyer is jumping, and that is the time to work.
About safety and spotting
A long time ago I promised myself that I'll be a devil about this issue, and I'm determined to follw through with it, at the risk of being unpopular. The level of safety in Alpha is still disappointing. I do not see the bases taking the initiative to cover a quadrant of the stunt, or taking up key positions and sorting themselves. The juniors are in, and we must have the leadership, at the very least safety awareness, to know how to place spotters and catch flyers. It's a simple simple simple task yet no-one is taking it up on their own accord, at the expense of very dedicated and brave flyers.
People, this is a failure in itself. I think I want to get someone or some people to be an understudy of mine to learn the safety awareness and processes. Its time people started being more responsible.
Cheers
Alpha Joe
